MMA Report - by Scott Sjoquist
My opponent was Steven Bourke from Wexford a costal town in the south east of Ireland. He trains at East Coast Jiu Jitsu a traditional Jiu Jitsu school. In two years his only losses had been to the undefeated Swede, Andreas Lovebrand. I closed the distance and shot in. Took him down ending in side and went straight to mount. I went for downward shoulder lock but I couldn't finish. Some rib strikes. I attempted the shoulder lock again but couldn't finish. I had to switch to something else. I moved up and set up for arm bar from mount. He ended up rolling me as I went for the arm bar but he ended up in the arm bar anyway. He tried to turn in but couldn't come up and he had to tap. About 4:00 minutes.
I decided to try a bit more stand up in the second match. I started with jab to feel things out but felt uncomfortable not in contact with my opponent. I clinched and we both exchanged knees into each others ribs. He was definitely stronger had a height advantage and hit me with a solid knee to the ribs. I decided I didn't want to chance many more of those knees so I picked him up and slammed him flat on his back. Jumping into mount right away and went for shoulder lock. I couldn't finish so moved to knee to stomach and then side to get more leverage on the shoulder lock. Still couldn't finish it. I kept the arms locked up and threw a few knees to the ribs. Back to knee on stomach and then mount. I threw some punches and his arm became available so I went for an armbar and finished him at 4:00.
