This, once again, shows how good technique can overcome what normally would be a losing situation. Josh had 4 opponents - all trained in submission grappling - averaging nearly 20 pounds heavier than him - attack him for 1 hour! Every opponent was tapped for a total of 15 submissions in 1 hour! What makes it even more impressive is that 2 months prior to this event, Josh could not even walk or lift himself out of bed, with a battle against the rare autoimmune disorder called Guillian Berra Syndrome, (white blood cells attacking his nerves). Doctors told him recovery could be more than a year, and full nerve functioning may never return. Josh, make sure to send your doctors a link to this page! A very impressive recovery! Congratulations Josh! Thanks to the following individuals that witnessed or participated in this event: Joel Reitz, Josh Iverson, Patrick Rutledge, Tom Mondragon, Robert Plaszcz, Eric Linville, Tom Roehl, Ravil Ahmetshin, Scott Wald, Dickie Goben, Tom Mohr, John Griffin, Alex Griffin, Nate Howe, Joe Ydstie, Ryan Dressler. Thanks to the opponents, who obviously did their best, judging by their aggressiveness, effort, and unwillingness to submit during some very unpleasant attacks by Josh. Joel Reitz, Josh Iverson, Patrick Ruteldge and Tom Mondragon fought with honor which made this entire event meaningful. Thanks also to Bob Plaszcz who volunteered to take photo's, and Eric Linville who shot video during the event! I just want to take a
moment to thank the guys who participated in the
grappling portion of my Shinbudo black belt test. Joel
Reitz, Josh Iverson, Patrick Rutledge, and Tom Mondragon. Thanks guy for giving it your all and
making Saturday an experience I won't soon forget.
No submission came easy and you guys fought your hearts out, which could be witnessed by the looks of frustration I carried on my face through a majority of the test, especially near the middle of the test. Great choke Joel, every part of my body and mind wanted to submit as the lights went dim, you were also a great inspiration to the rest of your team by giving me a serious run for my money in the very first round. Patrick, you also had me in a nasty choke that could have turned very bad, very quickly. Josh, you a very strong guy, you really played a tough technical jiu-jitsu game with me. Tom your one tenacious never say die grappler, your going to be a terror on the mat, keep it up. Thanks to all who were in attendance, special thanks to Bob, for helping me pull through. I could have never imagined the transformation I've gone through to be able to pull this off. For that, all the thanks goes to Mr. Arnebeck. He's pushed me when I needed pushing and pulled me along kicking and screaming when I needed that. There's no way I could have gotten through anything like I did without your help. Anyways I don't want to get too long-winded or get to big headed, because I know my journey in the martial arts world is just beginning, and think that's great. The biggest thing I've learned from being at the Warriors Cove is the journey is the best part, and the great thing is, it never has to end. You just need to set new goals and surround yourself with great people.
Thank you, all my
friends at the Warrior's Cove
Josh
