for By Scott Sjoquist The team turn out was very high 15 out of 19 team members. Welcome to the team Jason, Tom, Jim and Nick. Nick signed up the day of the tournament and is our newest competition team member. Nick didn’t have his gear but was a great help by running the timer all afternoon thanks Nick. David Hunter is recovering from a cold and drove in freezing rain from Andover to keep track of scores for all mat #1 matches. Dave the team appreciates your effort. Jim recently signed up at the Cove and showed up to watch and keep score at mat #2, thanks. We hope to see you compete next month. At noon we started out with a fitness test. This test will be used to evaluate future team member’s fitness level. Thanks for helping set the team standard. A majority of members finished well under the 5 minute cut off. Andrew was cruising with a finish time of 3 minutes and 45 seconds. I did a majority of refereeing on mat #2 and saw some good matches. Geoff got the short end of the stick on a restart that was my fault. Sorry Geoff I thought you were tapping. But that’s not to say Bob Plaszcz didn’t earn his win. With a third place tournament finish Bob was on a tear. I expected him to have a good day when I saw video cameras at both mats. A few guys were scoring points on the undefeated Josh Lebsock. Scott finally went 5 minutes with Josh without being submitted but lost on points. Andrew had Scott’s number and finished Scott with no problem and then gave Josh a run for his money. Jason Rich beat a tough Juan Rivera in his first tournament. I’m thinking “TheTazmanian Devil” or “Taz” might be a good nickname for Jason Rich. Once you roll with Jason you will know what I’m talking about, look out this guy could be good. Darryl has recently made some improvements in his game and it showed. Dan Novak showed up in Purple and Gold ready to watch his Minnesota Vikings play post tournament. Dan was working hard against Geoff and looked pretty good. I hope Dan put some money on the Viks. Tom is one tough guy. He has a wrestling back ground and showed it by dumping Scott his back. Get ready for the February 12th tournament at 3:00pm. See you on the Mat!
